Wow, it’s almost August! And that means something awesome. If you head over to https://patreon.com/jeffmay, you can sign up for a tier that lets Jeff send you cards from his breaks in the mail! It turns out I’m a member of this tier. Jeff does his best to customize these for each subscriber. However, the easiest way to help Jeff out is to comment either in the Patreon DMs or on the video about what cards you want. Let’s do a quick review of July, and I’ll give you my list. Also, if you see something I’ve asked for but you want? Let Jeff know. If you’re on the right Patreon tier, it’s yours!
July 3rd – 1993 DC Bloodlines
Thanks to super producer Walker for these. A fun set from 1993 focusing on the Death of Superman storyline – https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/74267/1993-SkyBox-DC-Comics-Bloodlines. I’m a huge Superboy fan, so there are probably some fun ones in here for me!
- 8:35 #63 Jamm – Jeff started doing a voice for this character, and now I want a card. The world’s a weird place!
- 11:40 #35 Superboy!
- 18:01 Superboy foil!
- Since this is a step up from the normal cards Jeff breaks, I’ve offered a trade. So if Jeff sends me this card, I owe him something. I’ll figure it out!
July 10th – Heavy Metal!
Thanks, Louie, for the fun set – https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/96915/1991-Comic-Images-Heavy-Metal-(Covers). While I definitely remember the Heavy Metal animated movie from my childhood (future Nerd! idea?), none of these cards hit the mark that made me want one sent to me. It happens, but that’s the great part, as Jeff has at least four breaks a month, oftentimes with more than one set of cards. Onto the next one!
July 17th – Star Wars Aplenty!
Here are some fun cards from Walker and myself! When Jeff and I release a new episode of Nerd!, when it’s applicable, I try to send a tie-in card set to break. In this case, it’s Enhanced Jabba’s Palace for Star Wars Decipher CCG. Jeff and I talked at length about Mara Jade in the game and have talked about Star Wars CCG before, so this set was perfect.
Good news here: Jeff got some fun cards for grading, but sadly, it was not Mara Jade. In terms of stuff I’d like? I’m breaking Jabba’s palace myself, so I’d be down for the rares, excluding one I hope Jeff grades for future content. For the great 2023 Topps Chome Star Wars, I’d gladly take a Grogu, there were several pulled.
July 24th – Marvel Universe Series II
Alright, so this set gets fun. Shameless plug: https://youtube.com/@jeffhascoolcards. On Wednesday, Jeff breaks stuff, but on Monday, I do, too, and it’s called “I Must Dre’K You!” I’ve been moving my way through my own set of 1991 Impel Marvel Universe Series II myself and am almost done. Jeff pulled enough to get me to the finish line (with one silly caveat I’ll notice in a second). So this requires … a table!
As always, the amazing TCDB was a must for the checklists/etc. to collate this – https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/74959/1991-Impel-Marvel-Universe-II.

145 | Darkhawk | [13:16] | |
146 | Sleepwalker | [2:03] |
There is a lot to talk about here. A fun part of this set is the first 18 cards have two variants: a bold font on the 1991 on the top of the card, e.g.
As opposed to this:
The good news is for 9-page binders, having 18 cards repeat is fine; the 162-card set should take 18 pages, 20 if you want to aim for the not fold front 18. Jeff didn’t pull any of the not-bold variants, but I had a few, so he still helped.
I also noted that Jubilee and Rogue are two of my favorites. Jeff personally cultivates lists for fans, so he already knows I want Rogue and Jubilee cards, but it never hurts to remind him.
Finally, no guarantees, but Jeff broke these cards before San Diego Comic-con 2024. He hoped to get some of them signed by the artists as a bonus to send to fans. This is a common extra touch that Jeff will do. This post is homework for me to get Jeff a list of cards I want in the mail, something that really helps Jeff out for his Patrons. It’s also an obvious plug for an amazing product. Anyway, I hope to show some of these cards on a future “I Must Dre’K You” – usually on Mondays at 6:30 pm Pacific Time. And Jeff will keep breaking cards on Wednesdays, usually at 1:00 pm Pacific Time. And hey, do you have cool stuff to send to Jeff? He’ll open it on Fridays on “Jeff May’s Mailbag!”
Until next time!
